“The idea was to just go for it. No overdubs. No real rehearsal. No preparation. Just one microphone and the empty warehouse we found, hit the button, and record some songs we've loved forever. That's what we did. A romanticized, foolish attempt at going back to how it used to be done.”
Honey Rose is Peter Gardner of critically acclaimed rock band, Hawk and Steel and folk singer-songwriter Sydney Batters. Peter and Sydney joined forces in early 2014 with the intention to try something different.
This EP is a collection of songs written by several of the historical Country and Folk artists we have all known to grow and love, but reimagined by two fans. An ode to the past and to the roots of a subconscious influence inherit in all genres today.
It's far from perfect. There's cars driving by. There's the slight hints of laughter when a note was missed. There's the sound of Sydney's shaking leg. There's the sound of Peter’s shirt buttons banging the guitar. But all of that is okay, because it happened. Those missed notes and those motorcycles revving their engines are all part of what was recorded at that moment. It's real. A vision of the past recreated for the present, for nostalgic sentimentalists everywhere.
Both Peter and Sydney are based in Victoria B.C. and are planning on combining their talents as writers in the near future to produce an album of their own making. This compilation of covers is a raw candid glimpse of what is in store.
